Children's Librarian

Rachael Sullivan, MLIS & YS Certificate

I received my Master's of Library and Information Science and Youth Services Certificate from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2023. I am currently working as a children and youth services librarian at a public library and have been at this position for four years. Previous experience includes working as a student assistant at the Dwight Anderson Memorial Music Library and as both a page and later a clerk at the Munster Branch of the Lake County Public Library system.

I enjoy working with the public from assisting with applications to general computer help, checking out materials, and locating reference requests. Working with children is especially fun to encourage new habits, introduce new topics and ideas, and demonstrate that the library is a hub of activity - you can have fun at the library! Creating spaces where children see themselves represented through diversity and inclusion creates a better library and a better community for everyone.
